William Bradford (1722-1791)

Author, editor, and printer, Bradford was born in New York City. In 1742, in Philadelphia, he established the "Pennsylvania Journal," an important voice of opposition to the Stamp Act. Bradford printed radical material denouncing the Crown. He was known as the "patriot-printer of 1776." No portrait was painted of William Bradford during his lifetime. This was done from written descriptions.
