Reverend John Cotton (1584-1652)
Reverend John Cotton was a Puritan clergyman who became one of the most influential leaders of the Puritan movement in England and in the first generation of New England's settlement. He was chiefly responsible for the exile of Anne Hutchinson and for the expulsion of Roger Williams. His daughter, Maria, was the wife of Increase Mather and the mother of Cotton Mather.
