Alonzo Granville Draper (1835-1865)
Alonzo Granville Draper was a Union soldier who served as Captain and Major of the 1st Massachusetts Heavy Artillery, Colonel of the 36th U.S. Colored Infantry, and was brevetted Brigadier General, Volunteers. He was killed by a stray bullet while stationed in Texas after the war. Before the war he was the editor of the New England Mechanic, a paper advocating the interests of the journeymen shoemakers, and in 1860 he organized and led a shoemakers' strike.
