Andrew Jackson (1767-1845)

Here is an engraving of Andrew Jackson in uniform. "Old Hickory" became America's greatest living hero after his victory at the Battle of New Orleans. He was later twice elected president. Before he took office he promised to give the government back to the people, but while in office he instead greatly expanded the power of the presidency. This picture was engraved by Henry Bryan Hall after a painting by Vanderlyn.
