George Washington McCrary (1835-1890)

George Washington McCrary was a congressman from Iowa from 1869 to 1877, the secretary of war under Hayes who removed federal troops from South Carolina and Louisiana, and a federal judge of the eighth judicial circuit. While in Congress, he served as chairman of the committee on elections and then published A Treatise on the American Law of Elections. McCrary also published all the cases tried before his federal court.
