Abijah Gilbert (1806-1881)
Abijah Gilbert was a Republican U.S. senator from Florida from 1869 to 1875. Gilbert engaged in mercantile pursuits in New York City from 1822 to 1850 and moved to St. Augustine, Florida, in 1865. He was a graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, in 1822.
