Alonzo Garcelon (1813-1906)
Alonzo Garcelon was elected as the first Democratic governor of Maine in 1879. Garcelon was primarily a physician who at the outbreak of the Civil War was appointed surgeon general of Maine and served in the 1st battle of Bull Run and at Antietam.
