Alfred Holt Colquitt (1824-1894)
Alfred H. Colquitt was a soldier in the Mexican War and during the Civil War, he was a major general for the Confederacy whose forces won the battle of Olustee in Florida in 1864. As a politician, Colquitt served in the United States Congress as a representative and a senator and also as the governor of the state of Georgia. As a licensed Methodist preacher, he was an early champion of temperance and was at one time the president of the International Sunday School convention.
