By the time of this 1935 photograph, Adolf Hitler was Germany's Reich Chancellor, and deeply committed to an intensive anti-Semitic policy. His anti-Jewish views, however, were not new to him. As early as September, 1919, in his first explicit anti-Semitic writing, he had blamed all Germany's troubles on the Jews and called for their "final ... removal."
