Ada Clifton (1835-1891)

Actress Ada Clifton (Ernestina Katherine Louise Marie Ritter) debuted with Laura Keene's Varieties in New York City. In 1867 Clifton married Edward Mollenhauer, the famous violinist, and retired from the stage. The actress began to suffer from muscular atrophy in 1877. At Robinson's Opera House in Cincinnati in 1879 she attempted suicide by shooting herself, but survived. Clifton poses in her costume for "The Statue Bride."
