Charlotte Matilda Vining, Mrs. John Wood (c.1836-1915)
Born in England, Vining, a comic actress and theater manager, made her U.S. debut in 1854, in "A Loan of a Lover," at the New Boston. In 1860 she renamed Laura Keene's Theatre the Olympic and managed it. Lincoln saw her star in "Pocahontas" in 1863. Mrs. Wood made her 1866 London debut in "Barnaby Rudge," then successfully managed London's St. James Theatre.
