Belva Lockwood (1830-1917)
Belva Bennett McNall Lockwood was the first woman lawyer to argue before the Supreme Court. She was also a renowned speaker for women's rights. Lockwood drafted an equal pay bill for women government workers and was one of the signers of the Married Woman's Property Act. In 1884 and 1888, Lockwood - following in the footsteps of Victoria Woodhull - ran for president on the Equal Rights Party ticket.
