Ada Clifton (1835-1891)

Ada Clifton (whose real name was Ernestina Katherine Louise Marie Ritter) was an actress. She debuted with Laura Keene's Varieties in New York City. In 1867 Clifton divorced her first husband, married Edward Mollenhauer, the famous violinist, and retired from the stage. The actress began to suffer from muscular atrophy in 1877. At Robinson's Opera House in Cincinnati in 1879 she became very drunk and attempted suicide by shooting herself, but survived.
