Cadwallader C. Washburn (1818-1882)
Cadwallader Colden Washburn was a major general of volunteers in the Union Army, the governor of Wisconsin in 1872-74 and a Republican U.S. congressman in 1855-61 and 1867-71. Washburn's military career benefited from the closeness of his brother, Congressman Elihu B. Washburne, to Lincoln and Grant. Washburn amassed a fortune in business, particularly the flour industry, and was a founder of General Mills.
