Benjamin Franklin Wade (1800-1878)
Benjamin Franklin Wade was a U.S. senator from Ohio from 1851 to 1869. As a leader of the Radical Republicans, he advocated harsh punishment for the Confederacy after the Civil War. He was joint author of the Wade-Davis Manifesto demanding congressional rather than executive control of Reconstruction.
