On Guard Duty Around "Fort Frick"
This image of guard duty around "Fort Frick" at City Farm Lane, Homestead, Pennsylvania, is part of a series of stereoscopic photos on the occupation by Underwood and Underwood. Workers belonging to the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers struck the Carnegie Steel Company at Homestead to protest a proposed wage cut. Henry Clay Frick, the companys general manager, hired 300 Pinkerton detectives to protect the plant. There was an armed battle between the workers and the detectives on July 6, 1892, in which several men were killed or wounded.
