Adelaide Ristori (1822-1906)
Adelaide Ristori was an Italian actress. The daughter of strolling players she began acting at age four. At fourteen she had her first success as Francesca da Rimini. In 1866 she made the first of four visits to the U.S., where she was especially well received in Giacometti's "Elizabeth." Ristori retired in 1885. Her favorite roles were Mary Stuart, Elizabeth I, Phaedra and Lady Macbeth.
