Alfred Pleasonton (1842-1897)

Alfred Pleasonton was a brevet major general for the Union Army. When the Civil War broke out he was commissioned captain of cavalry. Pleasonton was appointed brigadier general of volunteers in 1862 and commanded the cavalry corps at South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville. He was promoted to major general of volunteers in 1863. Pleasonton was brevetted for Antietam, Gettysburg, and Price's raid (brigadier general in the regular army) and for war service (major general in the regular army).
