A. Philip Randolph (1889-1979)
Asa Philip Randolph was the elder statesman of the civil rights movement. Randolph is shown here standing before the statue at the Lincoln Memorial during the march on Washington that he helped to organize. He first gained national attention as a labor leader organizing the Pullman sleeping car porters.
