"Battle of Buena Vista"
This lithograph depicts the Battle of Buena Vista during the Mexican War. After fierce fighting between U.S. forces under Zachary Taylor and Mexicans under Santa Anna, the Mexicans withdrew. The hand-colored lithograph was engraved by Bayot after a drawing by Carl Nebel as an illustration for George Wilkins Kendall's 1851 book "The War Between the United States and Mexico Illustrated."
