Charles H. Davis (1807-1877)
Rear Admiral Davis was a career naval officer. He commanded ships during the Civil War, notably at the Battle of Memphis. Davis created the Bureau of Navigation and the Hydrographic Office in the Navy Department and was superintendent of the U.S. Naval Observatory. Davis was chosen to represent the Navy on Lincoln's funeral procession.
