Central Park From the Blockhouse, New York City

This early view of upper New York City was taken near 123rd Street, east of Tenth Avenue. Manhattan Street is in the foreground, St. Joseph's Church at the right. Behind St. Joseph's is a colonial church that was later used as a court house and then, in 1917, as a convent. At the skyline's midpoint can be seen the Convent of the Sacred Heart, which would burn down in 1917.
