Ambrose Powell Hill (1825-1865)

Ambrose P. Hill was a lieutenant general in the Confederate Army. He was famous for his hard-hitting attacks at the head of the Light Division. After Yorktown and Williamsburg he was given command of the division. He fought valiantly at Antietam and Fredericksburg. Beginning with Gettysburg, Hill suffered from an unidentified disease. He missed many important battles. At the end of the war, at Petersburg, he was killed by Union troops. On their deathbeds, while delirious, both Stonewall Jackson and Lee called for Hill.
