Adam Gurowski (1805-1866)
Adam Gurowski was a Polish count. Between 1828 and 1830 he was persecuted for his liberal ideas by Grand Duke Constantine, who put Gurowski in political prisons in Poland. After the conspiracy of 1830, Gurowski acted as an agent of the Polish Revolutionary Government in Europe. In 1849 he came to the United States and began to advocate abolitionism. He published "Russia As It Is," "America and Europe," "Slavery in History," and his diaries.
