Azariah Cutting Flagg (1790-1873)

Flagg was a politician and editor. In 1813 Flagg joined the "Plattsburg Republican" and was its editor until 1825. In 1823 he was elected to the New York Assembly and in 1826 Governor DeWitt Clinton named him secretary of state. The legislature voted him state comptroller from 1834 to 1839. In 1852 Flagg became comptroller of New York City and held the position until 1859.
