Charles Ewing (1835-1883)

Charles Ewing was a Union soldier who served as captain of the 13th U.S. Infantry of which W. T. Sherman, his brother-in-law, was colonel. Ewing was wounded while planting his battalion flag on the parapet at Vicksburg. He was promoted to brigadier general of volunteers in March of 1865.
