"The People's Line -- Take Care of the Locomotive" This political cartoon from the 1840 presidential election depicts President Martin Van Buren driving "Uncle Sam's Cab." The cab has crashed on a pile of "Clay" (a reference to Senator Henry Clay) and is about to be knocked over by Whig candidate William Henry Harrison in the form of a locomotive. Harrison's locomotive is pulling a train made up of his campaign symbols of a log cabin and barrel of hard cider.
