"Jackson as Judge
" While Andrew Jackson was serving as a state superior court judge in Tennessee, the ruffian Russell Bean marched into the courtroom, cursing and threatening everyone in it. Jackson ordered him arrested and sent the sheriff after him. When the sheriff and his posse were unable to do it, Jackson himself strode out of the courtroom with pistols in hand and confronted Bean. Bean meekly surrendered to him when he saw the terrible purpose in Jackson's eyes. This engraving is by Gilbert & Gihon.
