"The Democratic Samson and the Republican Philistines"
In the foreground, Winfield Scott Hancock, wearing a loincloth and long Samson-like hair, stands fiercely in front of a group of scared Republicans. The group includes George Robeson, John Logan, Roscoe Conkling, James Garfield, Chester Arthur, Marshall Jewell, Don Cameron, and James Blaine. In his left hand is the lower jawbone of the Democratic donkey, whose bleeding jaw can be seen vividly. Underneath the title are the words "Samson is all right, and the jawbone is all right; but the Philistines have just heard the news from Vermont, and they are all right too." This illustration by Joseph Keppler was published in "Puck."
