"The Whig Parade During the Hard Cider Campaign"

This drawing depicts a Whig parade supporting William Henry Harrison during the presidential election of 1840. The sign on the keg of cider says "Van drinks Wine but Old Tippecanoe drinks hard Cider." A team of horses pulls a wagon with a small log cabin on it. The log cabin and cider barrels were symbols of Harrison's (Old Tippecanoe) campaign meant to portray him as a man of the people. This was an illustration in the article "The Hard Cider Campaign of 1840," in the September 1912 issue of Century. The artist was James Wolcott Adams.
