"The Trap Sprung! The Kinderhook Fox Caught!"
This political cartoon parodies Democratic efforts to reelect incumbent president Martin Van Buren in spite of broad popular support for Whig candidate William Henry Harrison in the 1840 election. Van Buren is trapped in a log cabin built with logs representing various state's support for Harrison. The chimney is blocked by a "New Cider" barrel. The log cabin and cider were part of the campaign to portray Harrison as a man of the people. Andrew Jackson is trying to free Van Buren with a lever. This print is a crude woodcut with watercolor, sold by M. Huestis & Co.
