Frederick Douglass (1817-1895)

Frederick Douglass was an African-American who escaped from slavery and wrote his story, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, which was daringly published in 1845. He established the North Star, a newspaper he issued for seventeen years. Douglass was also United States minister to Haiti.
