Myra Clark Gaines (1805-1885)
Myra Clark Gaines was the heiress to $35 million in real estate which was owned by the city of New Orleans. Her father, Daniel Clark, had passed for a bachelor, but it was afterward claimed that he married a young Frenchwoman and left a will acknowledging the legitimacy of Myra and bequeathing to her his property. She was the wife of General Edmund Pendleton Gaines.
