Edward Robert Bulwer Lytton (1831-1891)
Lytton was an English diplomat and poet who wrote under the pseudonym, Owen Meredith. He was in the diplomatic service from 1850-75, when Disraeli appointed him viceroy of India. For his services in the Afghan wars Lytton was created an earl. He was ambassador to France from 1887 until his death.
